As the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) has cut down the agricultural credit limit to Karnataka. Therefore, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met Prime Minister Modi in the national capital. He sought Prime Ministers direction to the Union Finance Ministry to restore the credit limit to the state.
CM Siddaramaiah meets Prime Minister Modi and seeks early clearance for Mekedattu, Kalasa-Banduri projects. He also seeks a fund for Upper Bhadra and rural infrastructure projects.
The Chief Minister requested for the additional funds to the state and he placed several demands before Prime Minister Modi. Siddaramaiah mentioned that NABARD has reduced it’s lending from ₹5,600 crore during 2023-24 to ₹2,340 crore for the current year 2024-25.
Funds for Urban Infrastructure
Mr. Siddaramaiah requested Prime Minister to direct the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Road Transport and the Ministry of Railway to provide more funds to the Karnataka government to carry out Infrastructure Projects in Bangalore and other places in Karnataka. Karnataka has set aside ₹2,000 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Vikas Yojana for the next three years he mentioned.
Funds for Upper Bhadra
The Chief Minister requested Mr. Modi to release ₹5,300 crore for the Upper Bhadra Project, which was promised by the Finance Ministry in the Union Budget of 2023-24.
The Chief Minister urged Mr. Modi to expedite the clearance of pending projects by the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change and the Jal Shakti Ministry. These projects include the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir on the Cauvery river, which requires both approval from the Jal Shakti Ministry and environmental clearance, and the Kalasa Banduri project on the Mahadayi river, which is nearing the stage of receiving wildlife clearance.
